that is a really good idea. My own mailman knows capone personally, they have met before, he sees him almost every day.

I can't give any better advice than the others have given but I know how you feel. I once lost a beagle and basset both of whom escaped from a kennel.
Good luck.

ok, ok, i got capone back today!!!!!!!!!!!
he was found just down the road, locked in someone elses kennel, they "breed" red noses. The officer told me that some one else called in a noise complaint about this persons dogs, the officer got there, and went to look at the dogs(possible dogfighting), and saw capone, he stuck out like a sore thumb, all white, and this guy had all red/rednose pits.
the officer asked him about the dog, and the guy said he had him(capone) for years, but the officer had a pic of capone from the day before, and called him name, and he responded, plus, i mentioned capones spine sticking out, so they called AC out to scan for a microchip, and they brought him to my house this afternoon...
it is a felony to steal a dog in NC....so that is good.
Capone is doing well, his ears are pretty torn up, nothing major, and he drank like 5 gallons of water when he got home.
not sure what is happening to the guy, i am having charges pressed, but the officer hasn't called me back yet.

Excellent. And I hope that the possible dogfighting case is pursued energetically.
I'd say that you owe that LEO big.
What happened to his ears?

they are scratched/cut some, not bleeding when i got him, but they were clotting up. they aren't too big, he could have even got them torn up on thorns or something....
he also came back COVERED in fleas, and i put advantix on him friday afternoon.....
he has horindous flea allergies, i gave him a good scrubbing with his medicated shampoo, so his skin is not so red and irritated anymore.
and he is having some serious runs....he seems other wise healthy...so i will wait a day or so and see if they stop. Hopefully, it's just from being fed cheap kibble for a day or so.

I'm glad to hear it's a happy ending
Probably not a bad idea, after the dust has settled, to think about a serious containment/security system for your yard and home so none of you has to go through this again. Even if you never left your dogs outside unsupervised, it's pretty creepy someone was able to walk into your yard...and during the day while you were home, no less.

Seems awful gutsy/stupid to steal a dog from your NEIGHBOR! (or anyone, for that matter)
Ugh, people disgust me... That's why I love dogs so much!

Yes.
Awful things can happen to any stolen (or lost and picked up) dogs, but the Pit Bull types -- bad people actively look for them, and it would be very bad for them to get them. It was almost very bad for this dog. The LEO was really on the ball.
