I think training with e-collars at any age is great. It is just another tool in your training toolbox. I recommand you buy the LB. dvd and learn to use the collar correctly. People seem to be affraid of e-collars when the e-collar should be looked at as a great tool to train any aged dog. It's much safer than a choke collar.

That being said, I think there is some groundwork that needs to be done with this pup first. I also think you should look into groundwork/leadership specifically regarding the child. I wouldn't be allowing a child this young to be mouthed etc by any dog, especially a pup. Before this pup is an adult it needs to learn that children are not on this earth to be furless litter mates to wrestle around with. Set the pup and yourself up for success by doing some refresher work ON leash first. Get the pup to see YOU as the source of great things, then progress on to the e-collar.
