There seems so much to learn, I have gotten alot of good information here. Around where I live, the only ones I knew that feeds raw meat diet, feeds only chicken and nothing else added, and I just didn't think this was healthy, though their pups looks good. So reading all the information gives me a good feeling about the diet. Now I am in the process of getting a new deep freezer to keep it all in and ordering my oils, etc. I am going to get a meat grinder and make up individual mixed portions, then finally the meat and get to the feeding. I am really excited about it. So thanks everybody for all the great ideas!!!

You're right Claire, a chicken only diet is not a well balanced one, though if it's fresh raw meat, it may in fact be better than a lot of crap kibbles (one protein source beats boatloads of corn, soy and other grain that have no place in a carnivore's diet...). Dogs *can* subsist on pretty meager offerings, they just won't THRIVE - it sounds like you're well on your way to establishing a healthy range of quality food sources, and even have an efficient preparation and feeding system in the works! You'll be a pro in no time.
If you're already feeding fish oil, you're all set!
There has been some discussion here as to whether "liver oil" (as in cod liver oil) is as good as body oil - the liver's job is to filter toxins out of the body, so some people think it's not as pure as body oil... but you could poke around a little and get some more info before you make a decision.
I feed fish oil and cod liver oil. Do you think I should add salmon oil?
Eric
Be more specific with the "fish oil".
You'll want to give fish "body" oils. Salmon oil.
Cod liver is more about vitamins A & D, not omega 3s which is why we give fish BODY oils. Feeding cod liver oil or liver day in and day out will over-do those vitamins.
I would discontinue "cod liver oil" use starting now. This isn't cause for alarm, but needs to be stopped now.

Edit reason: re worded description of cod liver oil
i've been feeding "Nature Made" brand. 1200 mg. just says "fish oil" and USP verified. label says made from deep ocean water anchovy and sardine. says further distilled to remove PCBs and dioxins and mercury undetectable. is this ok?
That sounds fine. I'm not sure of dosage amounts for a dog your size. May want to look into that. I'm pretty sure you would still want to give vitamin E with that also.
Hopefully Connie Sutherland will see this thread. She'll be able to explain the difference in the oil you are giving and salmon oil.
