no space for my complete response, but if i had that job, i would prob take treats with me. i also would not believe much of anything an owner would say or write on a sign if their dog was not secured from my delivery route and was in a position to bother me. just like i don't allow other dogs to meet mine until the owner can demonstrate they have enough control to put it in a down and it will STAY down. if u haven't taught treat refusal when you are out with ur dog, u prob need to, and if ur dog will pick up every piece of trash on the street when u walk it, it's also not trained well enuff imo. but i'd like to add that i ALWAYS let kids who want to pet my dog treat him, but the dog and kid are both in a down and i firmly hold the kid's hand so it can't be jerked away. i particularly DON'T like arrogant owners w/ "big" dogs who don't have the control or patience to do that, since it often introduces or reinforces a fear factor in lots of kids.

BIG difference between a loose dog who can approach the delivery person and a dog secured in the garage, open door or no.
This O.P.'s challenge was a delivery person feeding a secured-in-the-garage dog.
A sign in that case doesn't really have to be something you have to "believe," right? Just comply with out of courtesy.
