We have tried 4 different antihistamines and we've used wild salmon oil (grizzly) and vit E since he was about 8 months old. The chlor-trimeton generic and the hydroxyzine are the two that help the most, but still not enough to make him comfortable. Wonder if that dosage on the chart for hydroxyzine that Mike found is safe? It is twice the amount prescribed by the vet! but maybe it would help.
Mia has had a tough month with allergies. Benadrill has little effect. She takes allergy shots but her derm vet said it has Bern a tough season for allergies.
The Chlorpheniramine is still working O.K. Not perfect, but definitely noticeable improvement.
The problem is that the 2-3x daily is just too far apart, it seems.
I could tell he was scratching/chewing overnight. He's not a closet scratcher/chewer either. Then I wake up yesterday to 2 racing stripes of hair loss on either side of his back, just above the base of the tail. He had pulled the hair out chewing.
Would it be worth trying the Hydroxyzine? Or is the "pretty good" results we are getting what I have to expect and I should just stick it out?
I can't ever remember how long these itchy episodes last from one time to the next. They always feel like forever to me...can't imagine what he thinks.
