Im not running though!!! not even jogging
Just a very fast walk that borders on a trot.
Don't care!
Give me 1/2, heck I'll settle for less, of the determination that either of you Jennifer's have.

you guys are so nice! i did LOL.
i was going to say, we were just hiking this weekend, but then i saw your comment, so never mind. eh, i've been running and hiking a long time though.
i'm just always happy that luc is like 'this is fun!' instead of being like 'crazy lady, that's it! i'm taking off!'

61.1K?!
Trust me, its in the back of his mind. J/K
Seriously, though. Running, jogging, walking, swimming, skipping, frolicking......impressive.

I'm sure Luc loves every minute of it!!!
what could be better for a dog then getting to be outside working AND doing it with his favorite person.
So when you do these ultra-marathons how long are they and how long does it usually take to complete?
My only motivation determination for the long walks is to keep my sanity and my possesions in one piece. He needs that much exercise and quite honestly more

Ultramarathons technically are anything over marathon distance, though the shortest ones will be 50k (ETA: a marathon is 42.2k). Normally they're on trails, though there's a handful on roads, but they are the exception. Trail races are always slower than road races, for a variety of reasons, including how technical the going is, and that trails tend to have at least some hills at grades you don't see on roads.
Next year, my race plan (assuming I don't get injured) is:
April 19: 78k trail race (essentially 50miles)
The race must be completed in 12hrs.
May 23-24: 100 mile trail race (loops of 20k 8 times for 161k)
The race must be completed in 30hrs.
I'm a bit nervous about the 100 miler. It, I just want to finish, but it will be hard.
The 100 miler would actually be prep for my 'A' race, which I'm very nervous about. I had planned to go to Alberta and do the Death Race (125k, 17000ft elevation change, 24 hrs), but it's a week after Ironman Lake Placid (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2mile run), which my boyfriend is doing, and we'd be driving out there, which would be hard for him to sit in a car that long that soon after his race. So, instead, I'm planning on doing a new race - 2008 was the first year it was run - which is also in Alberta, but actually harder than the Death Race. It's called the Sinister 7. Originally they thought the course was 135k, but they redid it this year, and it is: 146k, 10100metres elevation change, and you have 27 hours. While it's not as long as the 100 miler, it will be harder. My goal may be to finish a certain number of stages, though of course I want to go out there and finish and do well.
And then at the start of September I may do another 100miler, but we'll see if I feel like training for it or taking a bit of break. I'll decide after Alberta.

Death Race...Ironman...Sinister 7...
Sounds like good, healthy fun, Jenn. Ultra-Hell-athon is what I'd call it.

Wow, you are my new idol. I am training to hopefully do a half-marathon this spring and that is hard enough at this point for me :-)

Thanks Jenn! I was a competitive swimmer growing up but by the time I graduated from grad school I was bigtime overweight. However, about 2 years ago I buckled down and lost about 60 pounds and began running and swimming again. I am ultra competitive so I am prepping pretty hard to make a good showing when I do finally get brave enough to enter :-)

i would bet you'll find your swimming background and muscle memory comes back relatively quickly. actually you sound like a prime candidate to start doing triathlons update when you run your race! it's always exciting. are you doing any other shorter races to prep?
