We've literally cried with relief.
I am absolutely there.
The misery of canine allergies with the life-changing itching so bad that they bleed and get infected and cannot sleep .... and that's just the tip of the allergy iceberg ...
It's just too big of a topic for a GP vet to be able to keep up with. And they mostly do not, IME. My problem is the tendency not to refer the poor owner to a derm vet early on.
I don't know anyone whose vet recommended the derm vet. Every single owner I know (including myself) went on his/her own and found a derm vet, in desperation and on the urging of other owners.
Again, I am SO relieved for you, and for poor True!
I've been away from the forum for a while and I'm just now reading this whole thread... I'm SO sorry to hear about True's knees - both of them! , but I'm also very glad you're having success with his allergy treatment. What a terrible situation for the poor boy, and for you. But hang in there, someone already said earlier, and I'll repeat - if there's anyone who could nurse a dog like this back from the brink of so many maladies - it's you!
*Noticed you mentioned Orthodogs as well - that site was a GODSEND while I was going through Oscar's CCL scare last winter. I even stayed on digest for a good six months after we were in the clear, just because I was so riveted by all the stories and priceless information. I'm sure the support you find there will immensely help you through whatever course of action you take for True's orthopedic issues.
My best to True, and to you throughout his recovery/recuperation.

Thanks, guys.
Totally agree, Natalya, about Orthodogs being a valuable resource. I will (again) highly recommend it to anyone facing an orthopedic surgery.
Leih...I've had that same thought at times, until I learned you sometimes have to experience the bad stuff in order to fully appreciate and be grateful for all the good things in life.
