My best move was to start keeping rain boots, heavy socks, a scarf, a slicker and hat, etc., all right by the door with the leashes. May not look lovely there, but the thought of having to go and round up the right outerwear, find my gloves, etc., is deleted from the excuses list.

Alyssa,
I live on relatively high ground. There is a natural depression, called "The Bowl" across the street from our house. It is larger than a football field and is the water retention pond for my part of the neighborhood. The surface of The Bowl is between 15 and 20 feet below street level, and my house is above street level, so I'm not too worried.
Every year when we have heavy rain we get some standing water in The Bowl, but only covering a couple of hundred sq. feet. Today we saw standing water in a large section of it where we have never seen standing water before.
The Deschutes parkway in Olympia which is on the north side of Capitol Lake has been closed. The Deschutes river is very high and the park by the brewery closed at 2 PM this afternoon. The Tumwater Valley is flooding and it wouldn't surprise me if the river came up to the level of the road overnight.
I wonder how Hans would handle an eGGe in water???
Are you heading to Yakima? Looking at the WSDOT site right now it appears I-5 is open. No estimate on when the passes might open. And I'm expecting packages this week!!!!
To return to the topic of this thread, have you considered harnessing your dog to a sled to take you over the pass? That would both get you over there AND get her some great exercise

I try to keep everything together to go out also. My youngest dog when he has waited too long starts dragging everything to the door. A toy, my gloves, my hat, and yesterday he was trying to pull my coat off the back of my chair. He knows we don't go out without any of them, and he's learned how to push my buttons!

I often thank my lucky stars for our indoor riding arena. When I lived in Minnesota I used to go out on those sub sub zero days. It is the wind that would suck the joy out of any dog outings.
I get a little stir crazy if I go too long without a run. My gsd is too young to go and my boxer is only interested in joining me on mild weather days.

This totally cracks me up!
Kind of reminds me of when my daughter started bringing a clean diaper to me (several decades ago). That was when I knew she was really ready for potty-training! LOL!

We get out everyday twice a day no matter what, unless it is too hot and I can't get him somewhere to swim. sometimes the walks are shorter but never less then a mile each time. It hasn't snowed here yet this year, but we have had some sleet storms and he plays in that like its the best thing ever. I keep waiting for the snow but all we ever seem to get anymore is ice and sleet.
I keep all my gear near the front door as well, we have hooks for hats, gloves and scarves and a re-purposed wooden toy box for boots.
Anything over 90 seems to make him dangerously hot so we take it easy on those days and only run around the back yard and splash in the baby pool then he comes in and hugs the air conditioning vent.

We either walk all of the dogs at least once a day, or I load them up and we play go play basketball at the school we bought:
Rock on Offense
Free Throw
Jesea plays dirty defense though so I have to be careful or the superglue comes out. For this shot, I had to throw on her prong and lead (the reason it is not placed correctly) just so she would stay there.
Max is off running around the building checking windows with Doug and Ajay and Marley are in the upper classrooms running around with Heather (my daughter) until it is their turn to play ball.
I do something daily with each one as I am in total agreement that they need it and thrive from it.
I missed this. Thats pretty cool Carol. From those pics it looks like you allready have the same attendance as the WNBA.

Cindy,
How are your dogs with handling the cold and their paws? Do they wear dog booties during the long walks? Mine starts picking her feet up after 10 minutes of play outside.
Thanks,
Lisa
