I have in my contract that the dog is to be returned to me but that is to protect the dog. Especially in a home where the dog was bought for a specific purpose, I do not want it to be euthanized if it is not necessary.
I know of a recent situation where a pet home euthanized a dog on the vets recommendation because of xrays. According to other vets that later read the xrays it was not necessary.
If someone is going to take care of the dog, I'm more then happy for them to keep the original pup and replace the dog. I can think of nothing better for the pooch.
I actually know of a contract that read OFA certification by 2. Not prelims. Which gave the owners one day to get xrays. Breeder enforced it too when the xrays were gotten at 2 years 3 months because of the heat cycle.
The three month delay was following OFA recomendation.
My favorite clauses are the ones that require a certain kibble with RECEIPTS or a supplement that the breeder just happens to sell.
