Joey, back to the issue-maybe try taking a squeaky toy with you on your walks so when he starts stopping or resisting you can maybe "entice" him with the squeak-maybe even let him grab it or throw it out in front of him to chase and play for a minute-I know most pups like that - and most labs like to retrieve

Hello Jenni!
Nah, no cheap imitation thin wired pieces of garbage if you're going to use the pinch. The Sprenger is the only one worth having that I've found.
Using the pinch on a such a young dog for correction, hmmmm. Inuring the dog to the collar is one thing, which sounds to me like you're doing more than anything else (correct me if I'm wrong), but using it for corrections at such a young age, before the dog knows anything of what's expected -- I'm rather leary of that.
This talk on the pinch really doesn't help the op, whose question was about taking a fearful dog for an evening walk.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.
Randy
i dont think he is affraid of the dark...this never really started till earlier this week...and it seems that once it gets going hes ok...we walk to the end of the street and back which is a pretty good walk for a puppy i think with out over doing it...now on the way back home...he is AWESOME...
what is the difference between using a prong collar and a choke collar....?
Joey,
If I was given only the two options; choke or pinch, the pinch wins hands down. If you're using a chain choke, throw it away , use it to hang wind chimes, use it for a saftey stop on a door, heck use it for shrapnel in a cannon. But don't use it on the dog!
For my young dogs I always use a plain jane wide buckled collar.
Joey, to me I'd say the reason the dog is awesome on the way home is because he is on the way back to the saftey of home, and he knows it.
If my dog isn't learning, then I'm doing something wrong.
Randy
Yeah yeah,
Try to remember Joey, pups will fall into and come out of fear periods at various times in their growth. Handling them correctly in those fearful times helps them to properly react not react to unknowns as they muture.
I hope that came out okay and making some sense.
Randy
we currently just use a regular buckle collar...but i have to pull him along to get him going...or a quick jerk...sometimes harder than others because i get frustrated with him...and i know that is my fault...
would i be better off skipping the walk for a few nights and just let him run around in the back yard...supervised of course...working on different commands?
