As a fellow on-duty Colt carrier (and presumably enthusiast since you do this by choice), you might be entertained by the policy of town near me who requires all officers to carry a 1911 in either Springfield or Colt. No exceptions.

You know that`s an interesting question and there are so many variables. Are you asking about something for carry, what are the laws in your state? Is this for home defense only?
How much time can you spend training?
I`m lucky I live in Pa where I can carry open(with no license) or concealed with my(LTCF) I don`t have to worry about printing or showing.
I was also at a personal defense seminar recently and the instructor carrys a wheel gun, a SW ultra-lite. I occasionally carry a Ruger SP101 but more often then not I carry my SA1911.
I have a bunch of pistols and 2 wheel guns. Right now my short list for new additions are the CZ Rami in 9mm and the Sig 226 in 9mm.
The only thing needed for evil to exist is for good men to stand by and do nothing!!!
Have her take a concealed weapons course (of just a gun safety course) with you. That's is how my husband convinced me to have a gun in the house. I learned a lot about safety and was able to handle a gun and get more comfortable with one.
When our children are old enough, we might take them shooting so they learn how to handle a gun. Otherwise, we hardly ever take our weapons out of our gunsafe. I think it is more of a hobby after moving here to Wisconsin from South Florida
We now own 4 handguns and one rifle. Can't name all the specifics. Before deciding on what to carry I was recommended a revolver for ease of use.
I don't own any fire arms. I've never felt the need and my wife says she wouldn't let me have one. But if we ever change our minds about that I'll know where to go to get advice
You and the missus should come plinking out in Elbe with the hubby and me sometime.
Betcha we can turn you both into full-blown gun-nuts... er, I mean, "firearms enthusiasts".
You guys krack me up.
I remember when the .357 mag 280 grain (I think) load was the new heavy on the block.
We were out with my step father trying out his new gun. Knocked my 3 year younger bother on his ass. lol
Me, I thought it was a lot smoother and easier then any of the .38's I'd ever shot. Just hang on to it!
Close quarters, you want a shotgun with heavy game load (double aught, or goose mag) hands down. If it gets closer, you can always use the gun body itself for a weapon.
