Rabbits are perfect for city dwellers. They do not make any noise. You can have them in a basement, shed, garage, etc. No one even has to know you have them.
Just to let you guys know, my husband thought this was a great idea and he is all for it. OH MY GOSH!! WHAT have I gotten myself in to?? LOL! Thankfully, he is up for handling the "ending of life process" for me, but who knows, 35 years ago I wouldn't bait my own hook and now I'll do it and keep on eating lunch!!
WARNING... logging on to Backyard Chickens will cause addiction to quack!
If I hadn't found that forum, I would be somewhat normal. haha Stay away from buy, sell, trade. You will find yourself wanting all kinds of rare breeds of chickens. They are all just an incubator away.
My flock consists of Buff orpingtons, Cuckoo Marans, Barred Rock, White cochins, a Black Australorp, 3 bantam RIR, and one lonely cayuga drake who keeps trying to make chucks or dickens with my hens. I am hatching out Brabanters, Ameracauna, and Copper Black Marans.
I can see a rooster training section of the forum coming soon to Leerburg.com LOL I have a dominant rooster. If he can't be retrained he will be Coq au vin soon.
How is it I just now saw this thread?
I have 18 hens, Barred Rock, Buff Orp, Rhode Island Red and Ameracauna. I have a hen who wants to be a mama (we have no rooster YET) so I've been traveling around the last few days getting her some fertile eggs. As of today I have 9 eggs under my mama hen (4 Welsummer, 1 Sumatra, 4 Australorps) and 15 assorted eggs in the incubator. I just ordered a second incubator today.... Yes, I too am a member of the Backyard Chicken forum. LOL
So far we are just enjoying the eggs but I think sooner or later I'm going to have to thin the herd, especially if we end up with a surplus of roosters. I'm just not sure I can bump off one of my 'friends' at this point.

All I keep chanting to myself is "no NAMES!! Don't name anything!!"
This is going to be very, very hard for me since I'm the type who names the dust bunnies under the bed!
