I would say the prices Nora is quoting are pretty in line with what we pay here in oklahoma.
But there is also a huge difference in price between vets here in town. I was quoted almost 400 for a neuter at one place vs 150 for another, both with high quality monitoring and care.
I might call to see how much a teeth cleaning is just for kicks.
Sure, I've got an extra room. Come on, then you can have that cheap vet bill.
However, that extra room may be a little pricey.
We can probably work something out. Do you like to do windows? How are you with a lawn mower? Can you cook? (That's for me, not the dog. For the dog you can just run 'em thru, wipe its a@@ and rip her off a chunk.)
I took Flash for his dental consultation today. The vet looked at his tooth and said she thinks the brown spot is dentin and not root pulp. She said his teeth are showing plaque on his molars and beginning stages of gingivitis. I had his preprocedure blood work drawn today and will probably be taking him in to get his cleaning 3 weeks from today. The vet was truly great and listened to my concerns about over vaccinating. She has large dogs herself and does not vaccinate them every year as she has the same concerns I do. She also gave flash an exam and said he is a healthy dog. He weighed in at 97 lbs and Ted was 101 lbs. Both are in great shape. Ted's teeth are really good and do not need cleaning yet. She said just start brushing them and it should clean some plaque build up. He does have a front top tooth which is behind the bottom tooth but said since it still functions normally as an inscissor that the only reason to correct it with braces would be for asthetics and since that is not a concern for dogs this would be pointless.
When flash is put under GA to have his teeth cleaned she said they x-ray all of the canines and the two major molars in the back of the mouth to make sure there are no issues. She said if she notices something with another tooth they will x-ray that as well. Flash has had brownish teeth since I got him and hopefully this should help his breath. I am elated to have found such a good vet who took over an hour to show me things and discuss all of the boys issues. Only thing is she is almost an hour away, but I will be taking them to her for teeth cleaning, even though they are a bit more pricey than my vet, knowing that she can do a root canal if needed on Flash is worth that alone.
I talked to her about Ted's hips and upon examination she said she did not feel any looseness or flexion, but we agreed when he does get his teeth clean to do x-rays. I asked her if she knew how to appropriately take x-rays and she explained the process and seemed exactly how Ed describes in his e-book.
Thanks to everyone on the Board and the leerburg site, I was much more informed about the teeth and hips.

That's excellent! And IMO a trusted professional who makes sure you are well informed and have all your questions answered in a polite (as opposed to condescending) way is entirely worth a good drive. In fact, it's not often that good specialists are easy to get too - there just aren't that many of them!
And SUPER good news that it sounds like Flash won't be needing a root canal!
