We visited him last night at the emergency hospital, I was mentally preparing my self for the worst. His blood numbers were not improving, and he still refused to eat. On top of everything else, while we were sitting with him, he started bleeding from his nose--which could be an indication of several complications, none of them good. The doctors were very concerned, rushed him away for a battery of more blood tests, and we were sent home without much hope.
Today, we call to check on him, and the doctors think a corner has been turned...for the better. His red blood cell count is starting to inch up, and he ate a small amount of food for the first time. They think changing to an oral pain med versus the iv pain med, which was perhaps supressing appetite, made the difference.
The bloody nose was and is a big question mark. They ran every test they know how to run--clotting factors, blood pressure, who knows what all. And they can find nothing. It stopped after a few minutes and hasn't started again. All his other vital signs are strong. He was healthy as a horse going into this, and I think that has made all the difference in allowing him to pull through this. I know he is trying. I can see that when I'm there with him.
He's not home yet. Couple more days, we hope. So keep up the prayers. They seem to be working.
