my concern is the people that just have their cases of ammo just sitting in the closet, sure, when I was into the sport I'd have at least a thousand rounds at any time, but now there are some real safety issues here. Theft is one and fire is another. The first time somebody's basement "magazine" catches fire and house or two blows up they'll use that as an excuse to limit the ammo you have or make you install mandatory sprinkler systems
I'll bet a year from now ammo is going to be dirt cheap, production will meet demand, people will pass on and the spouse will sell off the collections, the hoarders will run out of room
Dennis,
Ammo is not much of a fire hazard - the rounds can travel only a few feet in the event of a fire ( without being in a firearm barrel ).
Simply storing ammo in a gun safe goes a long way to mitigating any fire or theft hazard.
Theft....well, most everyone here has a four-legged burglar alarm.

If that comes to pass, I'm more than willing to rent a storage space!

I was a GunnersMate, low order explosives can be very dangerous in the right amount under the right circumstances and very difficult to put out, ie USS IOWA.
I can understand why somebody in a remote area may want to stock up, drive time and road closers are a real concern but this paranoid thinking that Pres Obama is going take our guns and ammo away when he knows full well that will torpedo a large number of his fellow Democrats and ruin his chances for re election especially when a liberal SCOTUS bench ruled we have clear constitutional right to own small arms, well I think its a none issue and he has enough on his plate to worry about
Power bags versus closed rounds is a different ballgame.
I buy ammo in large lots to save money, as I burn through it at a fast rate ( between range time, practice, and shooting school visits ) - I think that's common for serious students of firearms.
