Lareen, here is how I see compulsive training vs. inducive trainig.
Compulsive you are applying a degree of force to compel the dog to do something. It can be as simple as placing your hand on the dog's bum to direct him into a sit. Now the tough part for some people to get is that this doesn't necessarilly have to be unpleasant for the dog to be compulsive. It can be pleasant in fact, but it is still compulsive.
Inducive training you are 100% zero force in training the dog. You can attempt to control environment and work with a dogs basic nature, but no force. Like above in my super brief explanation of sit. No force, not even pleasant force. You are purely inducing the dog to perform. You do this, I give you this, you don't get it till' you do it.
One point is that I don't think anybody on the face of the planet uses only one of the above methods and gets any kind of good results. You use both. . .
I agree with ya Rob... you say it better then I do..one must use both togther to be succesful. And your right about the praise... there is a diffrence there, I retract my previous statment...thank's for the correction <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I do however have to dispute this. Lonny you are wrong buddy. Compulsion can be done in a way that isn't unpleasant I never said it could not be plesent...hence my example #1 all plesent...that's what I call Positive compulsion.
I think we are all saying basicly the same thing here... we just put it diffrent.. mine the worst because I have the lease experience, and it shows, but I do have the right idea I think.

Oh. . .come on Lonny. I was sure you were gonna get all ticked off and we could have a great all nighter fighting about it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Wife and kids are out of town. It's just me, Raef, Kyra, and the Widmier Brothers. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
hahaha I love nothing better then arguing with you about training.. but when your right, your right.. As always, I learn great things from you, even tho I hate to admit it, and I never would admit that to anyone else I know in person, I will take the credit every time... lol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Someday I will get ya! You will never know when or how, but I will get ya. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
