Ah yes the topic, respect.
What you need to do Connie is beat them back from the camp fire with a stick.
They must wait until you throw something their way. It's always yours first.
I know I have the respect of two of them, because they always defer to me, they wait for my direction and have learned to take my unspoken body language and cues as guidance for behavior, even when unasked of them.
The third most likely does not respect me, but we are working on it. He does however trust me utterly, which may mean that he does have some measure of respect.
I think some of the sport dogs have an "on the clock" or "off the clock" behaviour. That is to say that when working they give us the best behavior and performance but off the field the can be obnoxious
for example, Roxie gives me a nice focused Fuß on and off leash but when just going for a stroll she's all over the place
To answer my own question (LOVE the humerous responses BTW): I can take anything I want out of their mouths at any time, even if I have to pry their teeth apart, with no protest from them. Well, maybe a LITTLE grumbling -- but they do give it up if I say so!!

lol, Conan has this habit of obnoxiously shoving his slimy, gooey toys in our hands while growling like a bear. It sure takes some prying sometimes, but he always gives it up without protest. He just thinks that every toy is a tug, I think.
