Great to know! She has all her teeth and they look good to me, but I'm also not a dog tooth expert haha. I figured I could just grind the bones but I think she'd have fun chewing them up.
If it turns out she can't handle the bones I have been using a grinder with my senior girl and she does great. It doesn't seem to be helping her cancer at all, but it does ensure she really really loves meal time and is getting the best nutrition she I can give her.
She can handle things like chicken wings and leg quarters with no problem though. I grind things like venison ribs and turkey/chicken necks.
The easiest way for me to feed her is to think of the food as a whole animal and try to approximate that over several feedings. When I fed her raw when she was younger I was very scientific about it with a scale and a whiteboard and a journal not so much this time.

Thanks Jennifer! I was thinking I'd need all that stuff too, but I think I'll get the hang of it. Along with the omega 3 and e, should I add probiotics? It seems like THK already has them.

She LOVES the THK! I couldn't believe it. I was so afraid she wouldn't eat it. That's long gone. She stood staring at me making it, and even let out an impatient whine/growl noise while I was waiting for it to hydrate! I can't wait to phase out the Pedigree. I gave her 1/4 cup of THK yesterday, then 1/2 cup today (both mixed with her Pedigree). So far no diarrhea, and I honestly think her stools look better than they did before. They didn't look bad before, but they're like perfect now haha.
Thanks for the help everyone. I couldn't have done it without you!

I'm so glad! We have had a couple of folks report that their dogs hated THK, but a guy in our club (and my own dogs, who get their share of travel-THK and for-variety THK with their raw diet) started out wanting nothing to do with it, and as my club friend said, "Within a couple of days she loved it and within a week she was salivating when it was rehydrating." My dogs love it, too.
It's a very new texture, so maybe it takes some dogs a while to warm up to it. But then, dogs who have spent a lifetime on kibble are sometimes suspicious of the texture of raw meat, so I guess it's not that surprising.
I'm really glad, Katie. Wait until she spends a few days on THK alone and then you start introducing a little meat to it, and she finds maybe some pieces of chicken in there.

I'm so glad too! Seriously, I couldn't have done it without you all. I think she will really love finding some meat pieces in there. She licked that bowl so clean it looked like I hadn't even fed her. I'm going to buy some Prowl for the cat too, because even she was in the kitchen wondering what smelled so good.
It was funny when we first opened the box. My step-dad just recently went through surgery and was unable to eat solid food for a few days after. My mom said, "Well shoot! We should have just fed you this stuff!" I don't think he would have eaten it, but it's certainly healthy enough
I'm so glad it's been such an easy switch. It's definitely made it a lot easier for me and Dolly!
