It sounds to me like the dogs lack some consistancy, and that uncertainty could be causing some of the issues.
You AND your G/F need to be treating and training the dogs in the same way. I'd suggest going back to basics with your 'pack structure' and ensuring your G/F understands and implements this too.
Do you have any of the Leerburg DVDs? Maybe you could watch them together?
As others have said - Crate, Leash, and positive training.
Get the basics back on track, build a positive bond and then get your G/F on an obedience course with the dog.
