Westbrook, Maine, population while I was growing up was about 15,000. Since then, the town has been thriving, and the most recent population count is 16,500.
Rudy Vallee grew up there What do you mean, who's Rudy Vallee?, and Kevin Eastman(creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) went to high school there, at the same time that I did.
Hey I got one for my home town. Lynne just jogged my memory!
I went to high school(Columbia Heights Sr High) with a guy, Nick Schenck, who wrote the original screen play for the movie "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood as the main character.
Other than that, I don't think there is one famous or notable thing that my home town is known for.
St. Louis Cardinals.
Not gonna claim the Rams.
The Arch.
Forest Park (bigger then New York's Central Park. It has one of the top Zoos in the country that is FREE. St.Louis Art Museum is also in the park as is the Municipal Opera (Largest outdoor stage in the country.
St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
OUTSTANDING Missouri Botanical Garden (known as Shaw's Garden to the locals).
Six flags is 40 mins from Downtown St. Louis.
Purina Farms is another 10 mins.

Grant's Farm was wonderful when I was younger. I used to go so often that the camels knew me and would let me scratch them. I liked that big darker colored male.
I really miss the St. Louis Zoo. I have to PAY for a worse zoo(El Paso Zoo) than it just to walk around for 30 mins. The exhibits are mostly large enough and the animals were given plenty of enrichment activities. Add in the Zoo Friends evening programs and you could do quite a lot at that zoo. One of my best memories is one early fall day when the school got shut down cause of a water main breaking. The weather was perfect and the zoo was almost empty. The animals were all out. We watched the sun bears wrestle and play for almost an hour.
Boy Lynne I thought with all those points it would be FAMOUS honestly, I forgot by the time I got done!
Elmira NY.....well, Horseheads but Elmira has the hospital where I was born...no hospitals in HHDs. Hhds is cooler and more civil. Elmira is ghetto, but a little older, and once known. Twain, Roach. Beautiful country...high taxes paying for NYC and crappy education.
