Natalya,
Don't forget the stress from his recent fame with Modernica. Celebrities often develop eating disorders.
On a serious note I'm glad things went well and he is home with you. Angell is wonderful; differing opinions on diet aside you know he got top of the line care. If and I am sure this will not be the case let me know if he has to go back; my friend's daughter just started working there; connections are good
Give the big wobbly spaced out pupper a big hug from me. And help yourself to one too.

Smack him on the head and tell him to knock it off.
Nah. Rub his belly instead. And tell him to knock it off.
Glad it turned out to be uneventful. Scared me when I read the title.

Yeah, this was Ian's response... especially when I told him what a day in the CCU cost.
On an up note, we got him to lay down and sleep in a very contorted position tonight (made me glad he was resting instead of bonking his head on the coffee table trying to remain upright), and when he got up from the nap he came right up to my face and let out the nastiest dog burp ever in the history of dog burps. Wow. If raw food doesn't always smell great going in, lemme tell you, it certainly doesn't smell good after it's been fermenting in a gut for 12 hours... but a burp after a day like today is more than welcome.
*Sheila, I'll definitely keep your "contact" in mind for future trips... that's excellent to know.

Hm, I wonder... all these nice full-service 24/7 hospitals are all digital and online. The radiologist and the surgeon looked at Connie's x-rays from home. Given the necessary technology there is nothing to prevent consulting a specialist from any hospital anywhere in the country any time. I'd even pay a consulting fee. This is something I'd like to look into. Has anybody done this before? In fact... it could be done with human medicine as well... if the insurance does not get in the way
eta: wouldn't it be more ethical for the admitting doctor to refer the client to a recognized specialist(s) in the field than try to "wait and see"?

Natalya, glad to hear that he's burping! If I were you I'd fit a nice, long nap into my schedule today...

Well, not great news...
Oscar slept in fits and starts over the night, with multiple trips outside to pee or just walk (I think walking might have made him feel a little better), but this morning the excessive salivation continued, and he was really reluctant again to lay down, opting to keep dozing off while standing (he actually fell down at one point - and immediately woke up and righted himself - but it was awful). I took him right back to Angell around 8am.
A physical showed no signs of obvious pain in the belly or throat, no abdomen distention, and his heart rate is back down, but the salivation is indicative of persistent nausea for some reason - we were discussing pancreatitis or possible partial obstruction of the esophagus, and I was feeling like taking him home with some anti-nausea meds to have a meal and see if that would help... when he sort of spit up a little something indistinguishable. It wasn't a heaving throw up, which would have been fine, rather the vet warned that just putting his head down and spitting up could indicate something stuck in his throat... so despite my great reluctance to leave him again (he was SO not happy about it), we opted to check him into the CCU again so they can:
run more comprehensive blood work
do a snap test for pancreatitis
give IV fluids again (he hadn't had anything to drink since his last IV)
administer a drip of anti-nausea medication
ultrasound for pancreatitis or anything else abnormal in the gut
scope his throat for obstruction (he'll need to be fully sedated for these last 2)
I'm not quite as worried as I was yesterday when there was a possibility of GDV, but I really hate not knowing what's wrong with him (he's the king of undiagnosed maladies... soooo frustrating). I also felt terrible stressing him out by leaving him at the hospital all day again, and he reacts so very poorly to sedatives, we'll just be taking steps backwards in that regard when they put him under for the scope. Now I'm at home with no dog and incapable of doing much besides fretting. What an awesome way to spend a holiday weekend...
