I too am happy this was resolved Poor guy must have been in a lot of pain. I didn't even know foxtails grew in my area until all the rain we got this early spring, they started popping up everywhere. I was vigilante about avoiding them, my girlfriend would say to vigilante, but after hearing this it reaffirms my actions.

Tracy,
This stuff really works for ear problems. I'm wondering if it can be used for hot spots?
Thanks
Pouring alcohol onto a hot spot will probably make your dog afraid to come near you or the blue power solution ever again! You can make the solution with witch hazel instead of alcohol and use it that way on hot spots though.

I second the witch hazel mixture. I use just plain ol witch hazel and then follow up with some gold bond powder on mild hotspots.
If that doesn't work I use a spray from the vet that has an antibiotic and some cortisone in it. Cleared up a nasty large hotspot in a couple of days.
We had a golden that got lots of hotspots - I tried everything! Then I heard about Gold Bond powder - it's awesome. I use the green extra strength one and it worked like a charm. Recommended it to lots of other people and they had the same good results. Because it has some menthol in it, some dogs dont' like to lick it off either - mine didn't. With hotspots the trick is to dry them out, so creams and ointments don't work too well - the powder really helps dry it out and it must help with the itch because they didn't bother it as much while the powder was on.I used the witch hazel too - just make sure it's dry all the way before putting the powder on or it makes a pasty mess!
