yea i have it covered all the time so he is more comfortable. I just worry about air flow when we are outside, inside is no big deal cause we have air conditioning. yea dont you love it when people let their dogs pee on you stuff...grrrrr.... i got very upset with a lady one day when her dog stopped to pee on the corner of my crate with my bitch in it! omg it made me mad...
I do every thing i can do to be sure he is not forced into a reaction. It does help for sure, but as you know when they stop to sniff he knows they are there....
Yep we block anyone from approaching. The chairs are a good idea, I can even bring extras. i normally have one on either side, or i put him between two of my dogs that he knows well. It is crazy how many people allow their dogs to stop and sniff other crates. I never allow my dog to investigate a crate.
I have stated leaving someone to guard my crate when i am away, this way he is not forced into a reaction. I was just looking for any suggestion that might help me eliminate the behavior. But its looking more like i will just be dealing with it and moving on with life. Which is ok too i just want to be sure im doing everything i can, you know.
Stefanie
its good to hear that it is at least doable! I dont force meetings for sure that would do more damage than good. Although the times that he has had a reaction i guess that would be a forced meeting, not intentional though.
What i do is, if he seems interested in a dog I allow him to approach from the rear on his own terms, watching him very closely on a loose lead. then once he has a short sniff i call him back to me and reward him.
do you feel that is correct or should i be going about it differently?
He does completely fine if i ask him for a sit and focus, he will ignore the dog entirely as this puts him in a WORK state. He works in Open right now and has no problems with the group exercises even when im out of site, he must be in a work mode though.
it is when we are standing casually that there are issues.
It is AKC Obedience Trials. I compete with multiple dogs. so when i am in the field with one the others are in crates near by. I cant leave him in my truck because I cant change dogs fast enough sometimes. Also in the summer its to hot to leave him in the truck. I do leave him in the truck or keep him with me when at all possible.
I'm pretty sure the ecollar will get you banned from akc. I went through it with my Rott. Set him up around the side of a building away from the view of the ring.
yea it really is... and right now when I show my problem male i take him only, in order to prevent having any issues.
my dogs live in kennels, indoor crates or loose in the house if i am with them. not sure exactly what you would like to know so ill just give it a stab. they are in outdoor runs until time to work or run or play. they are in indoor crates at night. they are loose in the house just when ever we are spending time together...
Yes he gets along with my pack, though it be small right now. He also gets along with two female shepherds and one malinois that belong to friends.
