I am so sorry for your loss. Princess was a beautiful girl. You will help Kato through this, as he will help you... right now you need each other.
Kato (like most dogs) will probably do what he can to cheer you up. You have to let him do this... no matter how hard it is for you. Let him see you smile and hear your laugh... be YOU. That is what will truely make him happy. That is what will make him feel secure.
You gave Princess a wonderful life. She did not suffer, and you were with her in the end. You gave her the gift of peaceful passing, and believe me, that is not a simple gift to give. It tore my heart out each time I had to make that decision.
Hugs to you and Kato. It will be rough, but you will get through it... together.
Nancy,
So very sorry for your loss. My words are difficult to express but reading your initial post I was touched with your eloquence.
It was so evident that you loved her, that you gave of yourself to her and that certainly she loved you with all the doggie devotion and affection she was capable of.
Thank you for sharing the last moments you had together with all of us.

I've been listening to a song lately with a lyric that goes: "The price of love is loss. But still we pay. We love anyway."
I believe that the depth of loss we feel at any death is in direct proportion to the amount of love we have given and received. The thought doesn't make it hurt less--but hopefully, in loss, we are reminded of just how lucky we were. Both Princess and you were very lucky to have had each other.
Thank You everyone for the support you have shown. It has been a very difficult time. The support of friends and family who understand how much my dogs mean to me, have made it that much easier to deal with. Kato is doing somewhat better. His appetite is still not normal. He has a bit of seperation anxiety but we are dealing with it. I left him with my mother the other night and she called me to let me know that all he was doing was pacing back and forth. He was actually howling at the back gate. Howling is something he has never done in his life.
