Chuck, I couldn't agree more about not letting pups get to heavy.
My female is -7- months now at 50 pounds. The vets say she needs to put weight on, that will happen after she turns 1 year old. The less stress on the hips and elbows the better I think for the pup!!
Chuck - Thank you for your concern, I too was concerned and when I took him to the vet, he however, was not. He is a local breeder and did mention that he is and would be a larger breed. You cannot see his ribs, but you can feel them quite well. I have never seen feet on an animal like this in my life. He is already taller than my mothers 6 year old Lab and my sister's 2 year old Rot, which our vet knows this as well, as he is their vet. I have a lot of trust in our vet and feel comfortable with his knowledge, especially with him being a breeder of GSD's. So I, along with our vet do know that he is part of the big boned line... As for the stress on the hips, I do agree and CHD does concern me. I have a lot of information on preventive care and therapies for dogs susceptible to CHD.
Thank you all for the great information
