Lynne,
Hang in there. I am sure now that the neighbor has seen that you are good on your word for the vet bill, that you care, this will turn out well. She probably knew before hand that you do watch out for her appearance on the street and that this was all just an accident, that can be prevented. Having a good relationship with neighbors is always a good first step before something out of the blue happens.
Thanks again, to everyone. I am hopeful that the little dog and her owner will make a full recovery.
It has been a learning experience, to say the least. I did some serious reflection on what I have been doing with Chula. You know, you do something 500 times in a certain way, and you get complacent.
The worst thing about this is that it was entirely preventable. It didn't matter that 500 times before yesterday there was not a bad outcome.
5 years from now, this will just be a little blip in your memory, Lynne. As they say, some of the best life lessons hurt just a little. You'll be over the top for awhile with a zillion checks and counterchecks, but eventually you'll settle on a system that works great every time, even when the dog acts like a dog.
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
I just saw this thread (haven't been on the site for a week or so).
I'm so sorry to hear about this - I feel that you and I have similar dogs and our level of experience is also similar. This is always my worst nightmare when walking Nickie every morning before work! He really hates the little dogs that we see behind gates and also the ones that are loose and run out to us, barking and nipping, etc.
I wish you the very best and hope that this situation will continue to have a positive outcome and you can once again enjoy your time out in public with Chula!
I am so sorry about what happen to you and hope you find some peace with this. This is just a bad accident and I hope everything turns out to be all right in the end.
