Well, glad I am not the only one out there with these "issues". Went to IKEA today. Took the little one since she has a tummy upset of sorts so that was the only way I was going to be able to let her out frequently since IKEA is about 60 miles away. She has been to IKEA about 4 times. As we are approaching the exit on the highway she starts her thing. First short, quiet whines. As we get closer she picks up the ante and finally while we are turning into the parking area she is full throttle into her howl-o-barka straining her nine pounds of weight and 1.5" mouth with her oooouuueeeeeoooouuueee...... Well, our poker faces fell off the second the car doors shut behind us. We were laughing so hard we were barely able to walk. I think she could feel that this really makes us laugh regardless how hard we were trying not to show it. Positive reinforcement at work I guess. I came back about 10 minutes later, she was quiet and ready to go out. So that's it for now.
7pm and then "where's my dinner?" whining has already started. I dont mind them whining when Im preparing it, they're corsos...Im happy when they get excited about anything...but this give me my dinner NOW stuff is getting on my last nerve. I dont know if I should simply move their dinner time up or put them in their room when they start annoying me.
Granted, I realized very early on that I've always enjoyed vocally expressive dogs, so I intentionally reinforced her random GSD sighs, moans and excited whimpers. I'm assuming they wouldn't be *quite* as frequent as they are now, had they not been reinforced from puppyhood.
I call them happy sounds at night when everyone is comfy in bed. And I especially love the harumphs when things are not going her way, like dropping the toy on my lap when I am busy and I put it on the floor rather than playing a rousing game of fetch...

It's not the whining and drooling while I dish up the meals that I mind so much--I take it as a sign that they enjoy the food.
It's the ugly protests that happen any morning when I have the nerve--the nerve!--to sleep in an extra 20 minutes. My Corgi starts swearing. Get the *$@#! UP! I want my #^@&# breakfast NOW!
