GOOD grief what a pain in the rear end!!! I was going to post a second video which does not have the annoying reflection of the windows, but if it takes as long to load, it simply 'aint gonna' happen! (I had the camera on a glass topped end table and it reflected the windows).
Definitely a work in progress, and I've learned so much from seeing my timing on video!
I had fun working with Falcon this week and hope you all have had fun working with your pups too!
I wanted him to weave between my legs as I walked but we didn't even get close.
Previously when you would stand over him at all he would flop down and give you submissive tummy. It made it really hard to wash him or brush him or hook a leash on him.
So our trick is walking between my legs with a sit to finish.
It is really not attractive due to the way I am standing ....but we made some progress.
Well, I hope I didn't scare any one away from teaching "say your prayers." Like I said it wasn't going well... She got the "put your paws up on the chair and stay put" part just fine. It was the "put your head down" part that didn't come off so well.
At first she thought I wanted her to lie down...Then she tried playing dead. Then she got it worked out that I really wanted her up off the floor so she tried standing with her front paws on the chair, which quickly progressed into thinking she is now allowed on the recliner (definitely not! but it was the only heavy enough chair in the house). I tried teaching the head positioning away from the chair with some success, but she's not very used to long sequences and was unable to put it all together again, without her getting frustrated and giving up . Alas, that trick is going on the shelf for a while.
However, an extension of her "playing dead" attempts did look so ridiculous that I marked it and now we have a new trick. It's not going to win any prizes; Aimee and Buddha's was much better. But gosh she looks funny, especially up close. I'm afraid the videos don't do it justice.
So after a week, approximately 1 lb of hamburger, and numerous outtakes (mostly due to toddler created distractions), we give you "Where's your Tummy?" take 1 take ?
Now I've just got to get a good shot of her facial expressions.
"Dignity" and "Daisy" don't always belong in the same sentence...
We did some luring to a frisbee touch pad some time ago, this is Connie's first attempt with a proper chicken feeder and attempting to rotate as in one of the elements of heeling.
Finally - better late than never. If I must be disqualified, that’s okay, I’ve learned so much from this fun contest; it’s all a reward in itself. Just wait till the next one though…. I’ll be first through the gate.
And please forgive my DH’s narration, it was hot, he was getting tired and kind of goofy. If I could have figured it out, these videos would have music or the sound turned off. Perhaps some duct tape for the director.
The first is Echo, our baby mala-mutt. We always get asked about his breed so hubby decided to make up a new one.
He’s not a biddable dog by any stretch; but he is starting to come around. He is incredibly well behaved though, free-shaped and marker trained with ME methods since day one. I’ve just started luring with this contest and have a big stretch goal of perhaps a Rally or an Agility title.
We started at the beginning of week with “Through the legs”. It’s still a work in progress but he’s starting to put some effort into it. Oh and did I mention that I think… Border Collies RULE!!
And here’s Vince, he’s a pretty biddable guy. His obedience is pretty good but I’m always looking for places to proof it so with the heat and this contest I thought we’d try the sit and down in water. He wasn’t too happy at first and he’s still a bit hesitant but he’s coming along.
And this was the last of the day which pretty much brought it all together. Garrett’s in here too. He hates anything touching his feet so shaking paws is definitely a stretch but he’s trying.
