I've always been a devourer of novels, but I haven't been able to concentrate on a book since my heart attack. However, I was thrilled to learn that the 3rd Spencer Quinn (Chet the Dog) book is coming out in September.
I love love love Chet the Jet ("people call me that .... well, one person
does .... ")
Thank you for that great news!

Anyone read The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon? Many people have suggested it to me, but I haven't picked them up yet.
Meredith, I hope you are feeling ok!!
I forgot about the Chet books, I keep meaning to read them.
I have been told to read the Outlander series too and it is another one I forgot about.

I'm shocked that I scooped you on that news, Connie. A friend told me today, boasting that she's #24 on the library's reserve list.

Stephen Kings, Dean Koontz, Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson.....
I just finished reading 'The Gift of Fear' someone mentioned that book on another thread, I went straight to Amazon and bought it. Now, I plan on making everyone I care about read it, too. lol
So, all of you, get out there and read that book.
I guess I am currently 'in between' books. I need to go shopping.

I envy you, Jennifer. Stepping into Chet and Bernie's world for the first time was an absolute joy.

I got a Nook so I wouldn't have to pack as many books for deployment. Unfortunately I fell asleep on the last plane and it managed to slip under my SGT's rear for the remainder of the trip. The screen now doesn't work so I would definetely suggest the replacement plan. I got it so I just need to send the Nook back to my parents and they will be able to get it fixed or get me a whole new one.
The best part is you can get whole books off of Google books for free. All of the old classics whose copyrights have run out are on there. I had the whole Sherlock Holmes collection. I only have 2 books right now and I've read them a ton of times each. Really miss that Nook. Soon as my toughbox gets here I'll have plenty but I have no idea when that's going to be.
If you like strong female characters check out Tamora Pierce. Her series are excellent with very well developed characters.

Just finished The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks. I cried.
Gonna re-read The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans. I will cry.
I really should read stuff that doesn't make me cry....
Nicholas Sparks, he wrote the notebook too, right?
I keep meaning to read that one...
I went through all my paperbacks i've picked up this year at yardsales and came across this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Transgressions-Vol-Things-Behind-Ransome/dp/0765347512/ref=pd_sim_b_3
which im going to start on my lunch today!
We should start a book exchange!
(i know, it's not really do-able, but it would've been nice)
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

I'm now re-reading 'Ender's Game', by Orson Scott Card. Technically it's science fiction, but the fact that it's set in the future is not the main thrust of the book. It's about a boy who's being trained to save the world...
This book is one of my all-time favorites...

We might be able to work out some kind of book exchange, the post office has very cheap rates for books and media. That doesn't help you canadians though!

We had our performance reviews at work and I’m a good little government employee. I did initiate a discussion with my boss though and told him I thought I could be a bit more of a dynamic leader and he gave me the book “The Introvert Advantage”.
I’m off the scales with introversion; apparently it’s just about how we get energized and process stuff. So I’m absorbed with this book right now, just got out of the brain process stuff (bit boring) and it’s actually getting quite insightful.
Stephen King ROCKS!! Love him!!
