Hi Kelly,
Yes, many raw feeders fast their dogs 1 day per week. Hang in there, as my mother used to say "this too shall pass"! (hehehehehe)

Thanks Connie!!!!!
Do you think I should add boiled chicken the first day or too, or just go with overcooked rice?
I'm not looking forward to this. My old GSD was on homecooked food the last year (he had liver cancer) and feeding a large dog boiled chicken and rice is a JOB, and I hate the smell of boiled chicken. Sigh. I guess it's better then picking up ice-cream poop several times a day though!!!!!
Adding the raw skinless chicken to the cooking rice is much less bad-smelling than just boiling plain chicken. (I hate that smell too.)
Also, you can make a big huge pot of the rice at once, because the cooked product freezes just fine. No need at all to make it every day or even every other day.
If he will eat the plain rice gruel, then I do think that one day to start on just that is a very good idea. White skinned poultry is bland and soothing, yes, but overcooked rice is actually binding.

Thats a GREAT idea! How did I never think of boiling the chicken IN the rice, and freezing it! .... ugh. I guess when I was feeding a 120lb dog the big pot was used up fast enough to keep in the fridge.
I'm sure he'll eat anything after a fast of 24 hrs. (minus the pb&j)

Koe is a very sad puppy this morning. No breakfast does not bode well for his mood! We didn't do our nightly marker training session. Worked this morning using tug as a reward. He had another yucky poo this AM. I'm thinking he may have one more sometime today to totally empty his system.

Dinner time. Our EP just had her cup of food. Koenig is alternating between nosing the food tub, and looking pathetically at me. Poor kid! Making rice now, for a morning meal. I'm planning on giving him 3 or 4 meals tomorrow, of 1 cup soupy rice each. He won't be thrilled, but it's better then nothing!!!!!

Poor boy, I tend to give my guys extra lovings on their fast day (Sunday). There are actually weeks when I don't want to go home from work to see their sad little (hardly!) starving faces.
Hang in there, I know it's tough. Poor guy, I hope he gets to feeling better soon.
(I have a high drive, easily frustrated into frantic behavior beastie here, too. He will work himself up into a case of pudding poos if I don't get him settled down quickly enough. Koeing may just be working himself into this state. If that's the case, you'll just need to learn the signs of upcoming insanity and crate him in a darkened room or whatever it is you have to do to settle him).
Best wishes!

Good! Small rice-gruel meals. It's all going to be worth it when you see the poops start to normalize.

Lisa- I really don't think Koe is a frantic type dog. He had a crappy start to life, but had come around VERY quickly to a well adjusted pet. He was just a little baffled when I fed Sara (EP) her dinner, skipped his bowl, and called him outside to play. 'Ummm, Mom? HELLO!'
