... In by 9, out by 5. No water during that time. Should I get him one of those things people mount on their gerbil cages?
My dogs don't get up in the night to drink water between (in my case) 10 and 6. None of them ever have. I think he'll live. But if you do get a giant gerbil-waterer, please post links to pics (in use).
Connie- Those are the times that Roger is in the crate during the day. I was asking to see what time he is getting water in the am, before Ross leaves, and what time he will have water again, Ross returning. If he won't have water after 6 pm, this leaves water only early am, and between 5-6 pm.

Yeah, sorry for confusion. Connie, no worries.
He's crated during the workday, and at night. I wish it weren't that way, but we're not fortunate enough to work from home, or have one income large enough to sustain a family on its own.
I'll welcome suggestions on how to deliver an adequate amount of water without having the little guy struggling to hold it all day!

If you are not able to come home at some point during the middle of the day, then it is not a good idea to give him water during the day or you will just promote accidents in the crate & other problems. Possibly a dog walker or at the very least someone to come & take the pup out during the day for a potty break.
If the dog does not get adequate hydration you are also looking to have the dog more susceptale to UTIs.
Not intending to ruffle everyones feathers here, just a statement of fact: but I always have to wonder what people are thinking when gettting young pups(especially high drive ones) when they work all day & can't at least get home for a least a quick outing for the pup to potty & get some exercise or make other arrangments. Not the best situation for the pup. And yes I have worked with young pups in my home, three of them actually in the last 6+ years(2 of them at once, 9weeks & 9 months), but they either have gone to work with me (crated in the office under my desk or out in the truck w/remote start for heat or ac & outside my office window) where I can take them out for breaks or come home during the day.
I do understand that most people have to make a living to provide for ourselves, family & animals we choose to own....but some of these issues should be addressed before getting a puppy & not as an afterthought, as much of the time is the case.
Also, as the pup gets older his exercise & mental stimulation requirements will go up.

Really? The folks at the pet store didn't tell me that. Maybe I should sue them.

Hey Ross, I bet the problem with Roger is, he doesnt realize he ever left the pet store.

Steve: They told me he wouldn't require much exercise, and wouldn't make any noise. Kind of like a Greyhound. I think he's defective...should I return him?

Steve,
The pet store told me that I can buy another Malinois puppy to keep him company and the problems will go away. Preferably another male, and they recommended me to keep them in the same crate and not neuter them. Also to feed them from the same bowl.
Is this true? It sounds like a great idea to me

Why not a female? Then at least a couple times a year they'd have something to do during the day.
