That's just the thing, I have raised over $12,000 for this. thats a lot for someone my age to come up with. I have toys, book, food, videos and a vet all ready to go. Trust me, I've done my homework

I'm all for helping any one follow their life's dream, and you absolutely right - everyone starts somewhere.
But in a way, this isn't about you - it is about two dogs.
How are you going to meet THEIR needs - not your own?
Schedules... school, work, social life, etc... How would you handle a newborn infant in your life right now Shaniqua?
Expense of owning dogs...
What changes/adaptations are you going to make in your life to accomodate a new infant?
You are going to find out this forum is primarily about ensuring life is good for the dog - the owner's feelings are always second.

Any dog is going to have issues to work through doesn't matter how old.
But yeah, I'm with some others here, something about this just doesn't feel right.
You want to get into dog training, but you don't have any dogs now?
Have you ever had any dogs? Ever done any training at all?
Want to start a kennel, a training facility? A breeding kennel? A dogie day care?
What?
Good for you wanting to start your career right, but really any dog has issues.......lots of dogs out there are just begging for good homes.

If it were me, I would not rush out and grab the only dog I could afford - I would either come up with the money to get the dog I wanted or I would contact a rescue near the course and see if there were any dogs in foster homes that could use a little training to help their adoption move along - even a breed rescue. Then at the end of the course, you have the knowledge and the time to look for the right dog for you. I'm sure a few phone calls and proof that you aren't a dog theif, and something could be arranged.
Just an idea I guess.
And potentially, a very good one. This might be worth thinking about Shaniqua...

There are two of us, neither of us going to a college or anything so this IS school. Our work schedules work out in such a way that someone is almost always home, with the exeption of an hour or two. We're not "party people" or have a very extensive social life, our dogs are our lives.

+1 on looking into adopting a dog that others don't want, or adopting from a rescue. That is how I got Blade, my almost 5 year old Black Lab/Boxer Mix! And this is coming from someone who will be the first person to tell you I've screwed up in my training with him! However, with that said I like to think he has a much better life now than if I hadn't adopted him nearly 4.5 years ago.
Understand at some point in your training, you're going to make some mistakes. As others have said, be more concerned about the dog's life than your own - that's what I come back to. The only money I spent to get Blade were the two plane tickets, one going down there, and the next one coming back up; and I wouldn't have it any other way. I've known him longer than I've known my wife!

Wait - I thought you were students? I'm confused.
Either way, if looking for some pups, I would go to some clubs and learn about what you want from a dog, and see where the members got theirs. I've gone to a few clubs now and it really helped me make my decision not only about the type of dog I want but also where, what venue, and how I want to train.

oh I know all dogs have some issues, but I am unfamiliar with rescue groups and don't want to risk anything on a dog who's background I know nothing about. I have had dogs all my life. I have 2 dogs now, one is a chihuahua, too small for the class, and the other a lab/pit mix, but she is going on 13 and is too old. I have worked as a handler for the past year and want to expand to be a trainer. I want my kennel to start as a training facility and go from there- doggy day care, training, grooming, ect. no breeding. i do not wish to be a breeder at any point. Tell you what, you point me in the right direction as far as a good rescue who you think can meet my needs and I'll look into it and take your word for it.

The "student" thing threw everyone off - that implies you are in college. I guess what you meant was something along the lines of "students in the world of dog training"... Got it.
Saving $12,000 certainly shows a level of commitment and desire.
What is your experience with dogs in the past? What have you had, what types of training on them, etc...
(Feel like you're being interrogated a bit?) hehehe.

My questions has nothing to do with your age or that you are just getting started. I have placed dogs successfully in both situations.
My concern is the feeling that just any old dog will do, the dog is secondary to the class, almost like a school supply you are checking off the list.
I'm a little confused to your goal. Do you want to breed? Be a trainer? If yes to either one of the above questions, what kind?

Edit reason: ETA-I missed the post about your goals, disregard questions.
