No, it's due to unloading in prey, but good question. This illustrates my prior post that you cannot read a post and think that this is the best way to train your dog. With some dogs if you caved their world in the first time they chewed on your calf you would be left with a house cat. Another point to note is that unloading in prey is not the same as using your calves as chew toys.
Not directed towards you Deanna, but this isn't the first time I heard dog agression and Otis mentioned. I have had 2 Otis sons and an Otis grandson and none had a hint of dog aggression (or rank) issues. I can only speak for myself.
My dog has unloaded on me a few times, but is a soft dog, so I haven't pushed any non-chewey stuff with him... I realize the unloading is merely a short circut in his pea-brain and I just happen to be the closest object. I think you are correct in that if I had corrected him for this earlier I would have a very nice black and tan housecat.
I don't know squat about pedigrees, but I am trying to learn... Giants are relatively easy compared to the 50 different types of GSD's. One day I hope to be able to make sense of all that stuff on that little piece of paper.
Funny thing is he is an asshole with other dogs too, not true blue I wanna kill you dog aggression, but he goes after their legs if given the oppourtunity... As another club member has stated... "he isn't REALLY dog aggressive... he is just a dink"
hi all
this is mostly an equipment question - any feedback you guys could give is appreciated. i'm wondering the difference between using the soft leather puppy rag/tug and the material stuffed puppy tug with the handles on both ends - i have a 13 wk old gsd pup that is taking the puppy tug (full mouth) and i am also using the tug for prey development (have the flinks video and ed's bite training video)- would it be going backwards to use the leather tug rag - im not really sure of the purpose of the leather rag other than working prey, is there a reason folks use this item as opposed to the tug. thanks
nyspirit
On one of the flinks videos, He comments that with the two handed tug you are less apt to strain the dogs neck because you won't be pulling his head back over his shoulder. I may not have this exactly right but if you review the tape you'll see it.
Originally posted by nyspirit: im not really sure of the purpose of the leather rag The leather rag is difficult to hold onto, unlike the stuffed puppy tug, so it is used to teach the dog to take it all the way back in the molars where he can really clamp down on it. If he tries to bite frontally on it, the helper can pull it out usually, unlike the tug.
Interesting about the leather rag. Puppy bite video will be my next purchase. Also, "unloading in prey" Another new one for me. I'm gonna get there eventually!
