I'm enjoying Alaska. Love it. Love the snow, the mountains. Dog friendly, skijoring is awesome, prices are reasonable. Anchorage has everything you might need, but it's easy to get away. Good job options. And the temperatures are tolerable, with amazing summers.
Other places I've worked seasonally and loved: Twisp, Washington- great cross country skiing, Chelan Wilderness was amazing, great trail running, sunny! pleasant people
Ashland, Oregon: fun quirky town, mountain bike trails, beautiful forests
McCall, Idaho: Nice little town, beautiful trails, forests.
Lake Tahoe area. Sunny! and snowy. Very expensive. But beautiful again.
Bar Harbor, Maine. Dog friendly National Park right there, ocean, nice downtown, mountains, skiing, etc. and close to family.
Outside of the US I'd chose: New Zealand, Norway, or Whitehorse, Yukon.
I like to skijor, so snowy trails are a priority. That's my dog sport. I have no idea about ringsports or schutzhund.
Really, I'm quite happy where I am right now. If someone offered me a job in Twisp, though, I wouldn't refuse. Good memories of that area.

All the videos and movies I've seen of Alaska it's really beautiful, only not sure about the cold! And I do like your old governor if that's indicative of the people.

I like Western Washington. I think I'll spend the rest of my days here or somewhere nearby.
The weather - it's overcast and drippy 9 months of the year but real natives don't use umbrellas. Those are how we identify tourists and other people who don't know how to cross the street using a crosswalk.
Dog culture here is pretty well established, in fact it's pretty highly competitive. People here like raising animals, pretty much every domestic and even some exotics are pretty well established. Also a perk, no heartworm.
Seattle nice - I know it gets frowney faces from people not from here but oh well. I don't feel a need to defend it but it's one of the things I like about Western Washington culture.
The weird - but they're our weird. I like the off shoot little niches here, I like the reservation parties, I like our native shanty towns on Puget sound, I like the guy who carves stumps into bears and trolls with a chainsaw, I like the farmer's markets with cedar baskets and the egg mobile, I like the hippy wine from Port Townsend, and the old logging camps in Forks (you know, before the vampires took over).

1 vote for VA.
It's animal-friendly in general.
It has tons of natural attractions, which the state is serious about preserving.
No budget crisis.
Tons of jobs, probably the best job market in the country.
Politically balanced. Governors are limited to one term, and it sends both parties to the governor's mansion and Congress in nearly equal measure.
Laws are common-sense, taxes are low.
Only downside is cost, if you are living close to DC. I'm 20 miles outside of the city (I consider that far) and my cost of living is manageable, but still a bit high.

Son was in a 2 yr. rehab in Port Townsend Washington. It's a "dry slot" for the weather -way less rain and clouds than Seattle. We visited about 6 times and only saw one rainy day and 0 snow. Beautiful, a hip culture, dogs in town, in stores on the ferry. California but not so many people. North but not arctic. Great restaurants, some cheap. " Officer and a Gentleman " was filmed there. An endless beach for dog walking.
If you are young and have itchy feet it would be a cool place to check out.

During business trips to Europe, many of the people that I spent time with mentioned France, Southern Spain, and Denmark as being very desirable places to work and live.
Don't know what the dog culture is like in these countries though.
Ireland is undergoing a massive economic bailout to prop up its economy so I'd be a bit concerned about that.

I dont know where you've lived in B.c Phaedra, how awful to not be allowed to walk ur dog on a street? Thats crazy! Where is that? No streets like that here, few places ban dogs that I know of, actually many bussinees where I live allow them inside! Totally agree pretty hard to find a place that allows pets, we technically arent allowed so every time our landlord comes over from Japan we have to hide all our pets, no small feat with my crew and all animal related stuff ie. bowls, beds, toys etc. Its insane. But vancouver its easier than Richmond to find an affordable dog friendly place. I couldnt be paid to move to Toronto, I guess Calgarys alright, but being from Edmonton I am supposed to hate it lol.
Canada and U.S not an option......New Zealand perhaps...
