Temaril-P is an old timey kennel cough med. If you are worried with the holiday coming up perhaps your vet would give you a few pills to have on hand . In 95% of dogs kennel cough clears on its own, but the "goose honk" cough can last a month and many folks seek Rx.
For what it's worth on the kennel cough front I have fostered 2 dogs with kennel cough and both my boys are fine. Cicero had his puppy shots and that is it (he will be 3 in May). Vice was a foster that I adopted earlier this year so was fully vaccinated by the rescue.
For the kennel cough dogs our medical person gave me mucinex and an antibiotic for the one who had it real bad(she was shooting snot and everything!). It was also suggested that I put her in the bathroom when I showered as the steam would help loosen things up. And some good chest pats after the steaming seemed to get her loosened up a bit.
The cough med seems to have done the trick for my g-parents' dog...thank goodness!
My pup was under the weather for a few days...he was QUIET!...eek! However, he seems completely back to himself today and my other dogs seem unaffected. Hopefully we are out of the woods!
I want to say it's 2 weeks before your out of the woods. We don't pull dogs from the pound until week 3 for this very reason. Occasionally we still get one that has it but it has greatly limited our incidents of kennel cough.
