That's good. I only ask, because if you do choose to do surgery, the recovery can take a while. They also only do 1 hip at a time, and you will need to sling him out to the bathroom, etc. He will also need physio.
I don't mean to be a downer, but I feel that there are enough positive posts here to balance it out.
As you have already mentioned Kristi, a lot of this no doubt lands on irresponsible breeding. Obviously anyone can breed an HD dog, but I think in this case looks and size were the "breeder's" only concerns.
Kristi, I know you bought this dog from them without a contract, but I certainly hope you will still contact them, and let them know all the problems Capone has - and there is a great possibility his life might be over before he even reaches maturity because of it.
Kristi dasaquin is one that you need a rx for. I looked at it price wise compared to the glucosamine at the store and decided it was a way better deal. The amounts of glucosamine in it is way higher than the store bought stuff and he won't need as much. One of the brands I bought at the store he needed 4 pills a day with the Dasaquin after the loading doses he only needs one and could possibly go to every other day.
As for the hip surgery the vets I saw said that if you give a dog one good hip that normally they do just fine. So even if they say he needs 2 you may be able to get away with one. I'm hoping Cicero can defy all odds and live a long life without it! :-)
Kristi,
I am hoping for the best! I've included a website to a credit card which can be used for vet services interest free. Depending on how much you spend you are given a time frame you need to pay the bill off without any interest. This saved me a couple of times when bills were in the thousands.
The breeder isn't breeding anymore that I know of. but I did tell the ex girlfriend of the breeder what has been going on. I don't think they really care to be honest. =(
Thank you everyone for your support, help and advice! I truly would be lost without all of you and leerburg.
and thank you Sheila for the website! I am not sure that is an option right now. We are barely making the mortgage payment right now and my student loan payments kick in in 3 months. But since he is so young, you never know what could happen! Maybe we will win the lottery
