Tracy- I was looking for a companion, buddy, low/mod drive , If I change his name now, is there hope for this?
What would you call him, Tammy? Lumpy? Napper? Somnolent? Drowsy?

@Hilarie, yes, I have to say that Pit Bulls typically get the worst names.
Hennessy, Diesel, Glock, Scarface, Vito, Bentley, Remy, Ice...just awful.
Although I did run across an American Bulldog named..."Jizz". Yep. I just about died.
Cool to see someone else w/Indian names on their animals. Shiva is cool, it has a beautiful sound and a terrifying connotation!

Sure Ross, admit it! You liked my dog so much, you took his name!
The funny part is, I had a huge dog-crush on your guy before I ever knew his name and before I got my Roger. I logged in one day and was like "DAAAAAMN that's a scary dog!"

I don't think I could name a dog Roger.
It'd remind me too much of Rent, and I'd be forced to buy a dog named Mimi.

My cousins had a bassett hound named Poor Thing. The dog lived up to the lowered expectations by being run over by the family station wagon.

I am just now starting to appreciate how multi-faceted you are.
I was with you on Rodgers and Hammerstein, but now I'm completely lost (never seen Rent)!

I think little dogs with big names are cute, but I do agree that you have to think about the consequences if you are going to name your big scary looking dog with a big scary name.
I do like the name Drago though, that isn't a mean sounding name.
I think it's been said before on Leerburg that some of the most gorgeous dog names ever are contained in the book "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle".
To this day, I want very badly to steal several of the names from that book.
Essay, Forte, Tinder... just gorgeous.
Those are wonderful dog names!! I keep forgetting about this book, I am going to load it onto my Nook today.
I have always felt like Loki was the wrong name for Loki.
But Loki stuck and that is his name, like it or not.
We generally call him just Loke, or stink pinkle, or fatty mcbutterpants anyway.
Our rescue kitty has been named Peggy, after the weird guy in the bad sweater on those insurance commercials. She still doesn't like to be touched except on the bed. But every time I call for a dog or a cat or even my son she appears so I imagine her saying "Yes" in that silly voice.
My next dog will hopefully be named Iorek. I can't think of a better character to name a dog after. Loyal, brave, gentle yet tough.

A book I read a long time ago had a fat old labrador named, "Sorrow".
I always loved a name I heard at our clinic, invented by a little child with a pup- Velvet Ear pronounced Vel-va-tear. A yellow cat named, "Cheese". Lots of great names out there!

Koenig was Pepper before I got him. I thought is was just silly... Big brindle dog, named Pepper. I'm all for giving animals people names, (cat, Lily, dog, Sara) but Pepper just didn't fit him AT ALL. I'd never name a dog King, cause I think that's just cheesy. So- Koenig. Throw a different language on it, and it's a bit less cheesy.
I know a Mal named Recon- the name fit him, as well as a Dutchie named Ammo. I kinda like em, but I agree with everyone saying you need to be careful, they may fufil the definition of the name!
I've known lots of horses with 'sweet' names. (Sugar, Sweetie, Babe, Honey, etc) They were all crazy, dangerous, and devilish. I will NEVER scar a horse with a nice sounding name! Ruined every one of them!

It seems that pets named "Lucky" seem to come into the clinic being pretty unlucky!
I've posted this before, but - I had a dog for a short while named Pharoh. He "named himself"... it just came to me while I was driving him home. He was a totally wild dog, literally (raised in the woods by his mother and pack until 6 months old), and not suited to life with me. He eventually went back to live 10 minutes from where he was found with a lady who did sledding with him.
I really loved the name, and Faroh was from an "F" litter. I had toyed with the idea of "Faelan" (Gaelic for 'little wolf'), but it sounds too much like "failin'" to me, so I didn't want to name him that.
I've had cats named after other animals due to personality traits - "Cricket", "Possum" & "Trout". I also had a beagle/jrt named "Scout", and my last GSD was "Toro". He was already about 9 months old when I got him, and he was like a big, gentle bull.
