Congrats.

So his poop this afternoon was almost totally normal, a tinch soft. I substituted about an eight of the portion of minced back with minced thigh.
Otherwise all is great! No undigested bones in the poop yet, and he loves the food of course. In slowly lowering the amount of quinoa and raising the amount of meat. I found a place today that will sell me 22lbs of necks for $20, which is the cheapest by far for this area. They will also divide up the box however I want. I chose 1kg portions to thaw at a time.

Thanks guys. I truly could not have done it without this board, and especially Connie! I sent her about a bagillion PM's... and she responded to all of them!
Faroh is loving his food, and his health is improving.
I have my tentacles out to the 2 guys who do fishing "adventures" out of the marina near my house, and the owners of the marina, to keep me in mind for "extra" fish-stuff. Also, although the local butcher doesn't carry fish, he does order from one of the biggest fish suppliers in Canada, and has offered to check on prices of mackerel and sardines for me.
I also managed to track down a "members only" slaughterhouse (finally), but it's an hour away, and I have to go there in person to talk to them... so progress is being made!
How long can you keep thawed chicken in the fridge for a dog, after you defrost it? Longer than you would for a person? Can you feed raw meat/fish/poultry to dogs that might be sketchy for people?

I usually store stuff in a manner where I don't have to have it unfrozen for long. 4-5 days.
It can stay out longer, I'm sure.
There have been times where stuff was purty funky. You could smell it without putting your nose to the container. I still fed it.
You will know when something is too far gone. You probably won't ever get there. There is a huge difference between funky and rotten.
Strive for fresh. But if it gets a little stinky, it'll be OK, too. If there is any doubt in your mind, toss it.
Like I said, you'll know. If it makes you giggle and recite your favorite 4 letter words in a falsetto voice, it is OK to feed. If it does not elicit laughter, and takes your breath away, it is rotten.

I would not feed spoiled chicken. It is cheap enough that the risk is not worth it. How much of that slimy stinky chicken is left? Less than a couple of pounds. How much will it cost me to take the dog to emergency hospital? I'd rather buy fresh chicken and toss this one, should have taken better care.

Tonight's poop report: consistency seems good in most of it, but it is shaped like a teardrop. He seemed to have to push a bit to get the "drop" part out, and then it was tapered at the end because it was softer...
Is this unevenness just a part of his body getting used to the diet, or should I adjust something?

More about the poops - There is a bit of a pattern, the first part that comes out, is a rather firm log, while the second part is formed, but pretty soft.
Varied poop from different ingredients? Different meals? Too much food (he is still eating 3.5%, or a bit less, of body weight, since that's what was working on the home cooked diet but now it's a higher % meat)? Just a reminder, he's 6.5 months old about about 65lbs (maybe a bit more).
32oz total per day. broken down:
breakfast:
-8oz skinless backs, with a tad of leg in there.
-1.5oz either canned green beans or the mixed frozen veggies (which I boiled lightly, then used the water for the quinoa)
-1.5oz quinoa
-1oz Bio-K (very high quality fermented milk product, extremely high in probitics, too pricey to maintain long term - just using post anit-biotics)
salmon oil+E
snacks vary, but generally:
- 1 hardboiled egg
- 2oz probiotic yogurt
- 2oz veggies
- spoonful of quinoa
dinner:
- same as breakfast, but without the oil+e.
another example of snack:
- 3oz tripe
- 1oz yogurt
- 2oz green beans
I wanted to ask 2 things about this diet - do you think it might be too much for 65lb dog? I have to weigh him tomorrow. He definitely LOOKS thinner (better), but is also taller I believe.
Second, should I be adding kelp, vitamin C or anything else?
