"I'm not sure what other emotions they feel"
JMO:
Anxiety, stress, attachment, affection, happiness, rage, anger, worry, pleasure, suspicion ... I think dogs experience forms of each of these.
Maybe triumph and elation ....
Clinical depression (esp re helplessness) and neurosis have been proven (to me,
anyway ).
But I haven't studied canine emotions per se. People like Patricia McConnell and Stanley Coren and many others have, and there's interesting material available on the subject.
The entire clip looked staged to me. Didn’t look like old Denver touched that Kitty Party Mix at all, the package was planted for the sake of video.
While Mr. Roger’s was filming, Old Denver struggled between awake/asleep, didn’t feel like showing off that smile, and Mr. Roger’s had to keep repeating himself, didn’t go as rehearsed.
I swear dogs have a playful sense of humor. Maybe it is just playing and that is all.
Sometimes, I will run around the corner to play hide and seek from them, so this is probably a learned behavior.
But my female will do this too to my male. She will peek around the corner to see where he is and then go in the direction to catch him. Lots of play bows and cajoling ensues.

I think there is some form of doggie humor... I swear sometimes they seem to be smiling and have that sparkle in their eyes as they do something to make us burst out laughing. (Obviously not the kind of humor as in "hey, have you heard the one about the farmer's daugher" type of humor, but a clever joy perhaps?)

Maybe it WAS staged!
But I still see uncomfortableness and stress .... whether from a staged skit or not. I still see what someone else saw: "head down, eyes closed, ears back. That's what tells the story for me. The nose licking, too."
The avoidance and the slight cringe -- those just don't strike me (at all!) as being home-trained mannerisms for a video. That dog looks stressed to me, even on second and third viewing.
