I have a similar problem. I was using a prong on my GSD/Golden and some lady slowed down and gave me an unmistakable LOOK.
But...we just moved to this area and I am happy here (we have 30 acres, out in the country, lots of animals). The only thing that I am miserable about is the apparent pet-philosophy of what seems like everyone in our area. If I drive down the road and don't see a loose dog it is surprising (I drove animal control crazy when I first moved here, but apparently there are no leash laws). Almost every house has a loan dog tied to a tree (one family has a loan goat tied). Many of the loose dogs are intact males. And on and on.
So, my long winded point is, IF there is any possibility of taking a deep breath and having a non-confrontational conversation with someone who clearly misunderstands (and who is begging for an education!) I have to go with that choice. Maybe there is a way to make a difference. I soothe myself with the thought that some of these difficult conversations have made a difference to an animal or two.
Of course, maybe not. And obviously some people will marinate in their own ignorance and remain there. And sometimes you can make things worse. I don't know what the right answer is, but I thought I would throw that out there. JMO!
lol my pup will be on his 1 inch agitation leather collar a prong and a choke cant get fur saver all the time once he was attacked by stray when she was pup i was there the stray didnt come close since then my dog went dog agressive people wont understand what we do. well here i have a wierd situation since my next door female tryed to throw some food at my dog she is cruel even will try to kill my dog lol. since then i wont let my pup out of my sight xD . simply ignore her if she wants to talk to you about that situation just dont talk to her
I would probably take the stance that her stupidity is none of my business and giggle every time I walked by her door Immature, yes. But it would make me feel a teenie bit better!
Finn is getting big. He bounces into you and holy cow. For a knee high dog he packs a bit of a punch. He weighs about oh 37-39 lbs. My nice round rollie pollie puppy.. LOL.
So I did like my last post commented .. acted my age.. *snorts and giggles*
I was leaving this morning with my daughter to run some errands and who happened to be out. Her and her yappy dog. I cut right to the chase and made it perfectly clear we have Finn on a shock collar, that we mainly use it to reinforce his commands and to get him used to his hunting collar. I proceeded (as of right now that darn yappy thing is going nuts) to tell her that last night Finn got his head/upper half of his body stuck in the door, explained I was working on marking his behavior and that he was afraid of going out the door because it bit him.
Then I also told her that I heard the comments either she or the neighbor upstairs was saying and that I didn't really appreciate the comments. I explained I didn't know if it was her or who it was but I thought it was rude since who ever was bad mouthing me could have come out and asked me what was going on.
She as I was saying this had her head down and was VERY quiet. But what really got my goat was she denied that she said anything AND accused my dog of biting her yappy furballs ear. Since her dog is 1) not fixed and female (Finn is not fix either) 2) NONE of her shots are up to date 3) and her dog has some VERY bad manners that I would really like to not have passed on to Finn or any of his accidental offspring (over my dead body).
Finn has not been around her dog since November of last year accept for twice. Finn has gotten to big to play with her female dog and that was only for a few months.
So she accused of the biting and I asked her when. She says oh within the last week Finn bit her ear or she bit his neck and got shocked by our e-collar. MY BEHIND! I jumped on that and wanted dates, and times. She couldn't give it and couldn't look me in the eye either.
As of that comment I will be polite to her but she can eat my shorts. Side note: her darn dog charged my daughter who was 5 feet away and standing on my door step mat. Harleigh even went so far as to say to Bella (the yapper) "No Bella! Naughty!" The owner.. did .. Nothing.
I would probably take the stance that her stupidity is none of my business and giggle every time I walked by her door Immature, yes. But it would make me feel a teenie bit better!
That is actually what is going to happen and has been happening since this morning. My husband has even gotten into the chuckle and just smirks on his way in or out. Waiting for my 3 year old to pick up the habit.
I am getting in a groove with strangers comment. Last week end was "How can you put such torture device on a dog, he must be really mean." I just said that I rather have my torture device on and not have to use it then gagging and choking my dog on a flat collar. Oh yeah, she had a big fully dog gagging and choking dragging around!!!
Smile or just laught out loud at them It feels good, to me any way!
Giving people advice about how they manage their dog is an absolute mine field IME. You might as well criticize parenting.
Maybe you should buy your neighbor a prong for little miss barky and let her see for herself how nicely the dog walks when it is wearing a prong. It could open her eyes.
