I don't see a liability if you can get the dog to bark at the door or with you in the car maybe but the situation where some AH wants to mess with you or worse rob you and the dog isn't trained. it would be a liability from a defensive position.
A lot of this 'pretense' of having a defender has more to do with ones own attitude then anything else.
Words mean more to the (I'll say) the perceived menace than the dog.
Let's suppose the dog alerts to someone and it's really happy because he likes peoples. Now you're not so happy at this moment to be seeing someone, and instead of giving a common command of here and sit one were to say; no, it's okay, watch'em?
Same thing happens as far as the dog is concerned, it comes back to heel, or the steady to your side sit, it's still happy as a clam.
However, the person you're really talking to hears, whoa don't do anything to that guy inless I tell you.
Much depends on your own attidute.
Dog or no dog. pp dog or a lap slug. Much depends on your attidute.
maybe some people that have a number of street bites can opine. I only have two occasions where Erika was going to bite. a dog standing on all fours barking is not nearly as intimidating as a dog up on two straining on the lead trying to get the bite
How would I go about this? Should I get in touch with a PP trainer or similar so that it's done safely and without escalating into something more? (pointer).
Just as an FYI, there are only about six ( yes, *6* ) PP trainers in this entire country that know what they're doing - the rest are wannabes with no real experience or knowledge base and are ill-informed at best, and dangerous at worst.
Be *very* careful regarding a PP trainer.
You'll have to ask the persons that were in front of her at the time.
She reacted like she does at the club, deep bark and snapping up on two feet trying to drag me. Once the AHs got the message and left I gave her a sharp Foos command and praise. just some jerks who though they were badasses, teenagers.
