Hi Cheri!
You are very smart to realize that the best thing is to leave your dog in the car until it is her turn to work. She will be happy to get out of the car and she will learn that she must go into work mode when she comes out.. That is what we do in Schutzhund.I also park where my dog can see the action on the field. The dogs are out only to relieve themselves or work on the field.. I think it helps to build drive because they anticipate getting out and having a blast on the field! We do crate our dogs in the car and have a fan on the crate, plenty of water and keep the doors and windows open..
Anne,
I do understand all of that.. My point is: I am driving 300 miles on a weekend if I go to club on Sat. and Sunday, I am spending hundreds of dollars on private training, gas, bridge tolls, club dues etc. I wanted to see if there are others who have had experience with a dog that tires easily and perhaps learn something from their experiences..My dog will turn on the drive and he looks great for about 5 minutes and then he is toast.. I haven't met anybody at the 2 Schutzhund clubs that I attend that have a dog that is as large or lazy as mine.. Don't get me wrong.. I love my dog and we have a fantastic bond, but financially and emotionally I need to decide how far I can expect to go with my boy..
