trust me, I considered the stealing or injuring angle while I was watching. However considering the area (he had attracted a small crowd doing this) him hurting Ryuk seemed a bit unlikely (this is Northampton....kicking a dog here is on the same level as beating a random child you walk up to). And he wasn't being aggressive and he didn't seem mentally unstableIt started like he was just one of those people who assumes "in training" is a challenge to distract the dog, then it just kept on going (to my amusement).
As for stealing him. Ryuk is never alone in public or if he's in a car is under lock and key (and beware of dog sign). He's not left in the yard, on a tie out, even when he is in the car I'm typically watching said car unless it's the private lot at school which has a guard...I'm always in the area and watching him. He doesn't wait for me outside of shops, when I bring him downtown it's for training or for "dog shopping" in the pet store where he comes in with me, I don't shop myself.
He's a pretty dog, but he is NOT marketable enough to risk stealing with the amount of effort it would take (not to mention he comes with a built-in bloody murder scream alarm and that's well before he physically stops you from moving him). From a car he wouldn't be worth the fight, nor would my car actually (great auto theft protection ), and if someone could get him from our little training courtyard into a car in less than the time it takes me to run 10 ft and club them in the head with the weight I use for training retreives on them than they're a ninja (which I'm told aren't common in this area), Ryuk isn't worth the effort and time (and injury) it would take to even try it for a potential thief.
I'm still taking a camera next time, on the off chance the guy is back and for the other people who attempt to distract him. This guy was unique in the extent he went to do it but I've had people do all sorts of odd things when he's behaving nicely.
