I'm so very sorry for your loss, Mike. Saying good-bye to them is the hardest thing we do as dog owners. It sounds like Max was a very special dog who will always live on in your heart.
Some good news... The puppy - 7 mos. - is doing well. Tyson, while Max was at the hospital, presented with symptoms that turned out to be a blockage. So for two days Max and Tyson were side by side at the hospital. Tyson ingested a chunk of rubber bone the size of a golf ball, and it blocked his intestine. The surgeon resolved the issue, and the staples come out next Wednesday.
Tyson is my latest rescue. Started out fostering, and then thought, 'what's another dog?'
So on Wednesday last week, I took Tyson home to recuperate, and Max to join his friends. There is almost always some thing to be grateful for in any hard time. Just got to look, I guess.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts.
I choose to see much of Max in Tyson. Comforting.

I am very sorry for your loss, Mike. My last GSD was a Maximus on paper, just Max to us. He'll be gone 3 years on Sept 11th, and I don't think a day has gone by that I don't call Roger "Max" at some point.

This is a hard lesson to learn, but very true. So glad Max lives on, in your new little hell-raiser, Tyson.
