I feel strange as I'm not particularly drawn to any breed although I do admire several. My ideal dog would be at least 50lbs but not exceed 125lbs, solid of structure andin proportion in bulid with a straight back, lots of energy and a desire to pull so much that it becomes a self-rewarding activity. This dog would be nuetral to dogs outside the family, friendly to those he lives with, affectionate with the family, friendly to nuetral to strangers as he would be out in public alot either pulling or with backpacks on. He would be also be thrilled to go biking along with other such activites and when we're done, he'll look at me with eyes dancing and tail wagging with the "that was fun, let's do it again" look. Ability to get along with cats, small animals and birds negotiable.
I'm not sure what breeds would fit that insane discription, but that's what I want to see in my ideal dog. I think I described Hobbes except for the nuetral to other dogs part.

I just started reading about Eurasiers. I would have one if I could. Chow-ish but not so extreme.
Also I LUST after one of Ram's dogs -- the Rajapalayam!!

I'd love a Belgian Malinois, ditto a GSD (steering far away from American show lines).
Oops, my time to edit has passed, but I can't let this stand. I should have said I would be avoiding show lines, period, not just American. If I was to acquire a GSD, I would want one like those produced by Becky or Betty on this board.

I will always have GSD's, but the one breed that I must try, is a Leonberger. Eventually, we want to move more north to cooler summers and then I would love to get a Leo.
I couldn't possibly subject one to the Texas summer heat, as it is, I feel badly for putting the two I have now, through it.

That is soo neat! I think everyone would like to achieve that kind of OB!
Ben, what is a Belgian Mastiff?
Seems like most everyone wants a Mal... I wish I could meet one in person. The closest I have come to a mal in person was seeing one through the car window at the border. Just by the looks it would be to much drive for me unless I lived alone.

My boss trains retrievers, and he lusts for a 'real' English Setter as well (and he's got some pretty amazing Labradors). I guess there is a kennel in (I believe!) Oregon that is still breeding the real deal dog. He can't shut up about them recently.... lol.

That Bart bellon dog is amazing, Some serious training and drive. But it looks like a GSD , is it a GSD or a BM?
Deb>> Rajapalayams are a different class of dogs. They are so in tune with their humans , with out any training. The puppies I have now are starting show those traits at such a young age. If I could send a puppy to you , I would give one to you for free. .

Well, I guess I would quibble with what a "real" english setter is. My friend breeds english setters that are not only champions but also have UDs, advanced agility titles *and* hunt. It is too bad that there is a seperation in the breed but "Llewellyn" setters are no more a "real" english setter than a "bench" setter is. To each their own. <stepping off soapbox>

He's a Malinois, but black and tan. It's a recessive color pattern that crops up once in awhile, the first time I heard of it was actually in a Laekenois litter, although I've seen some Tervuren photos that looked suspiciously black and tan also, just harder to tell when the dogs have that full coat if it's black and tan or just has a ton of blackening.
