I could think of nothing worse then waiting for a litter, following it's progress and then be told there wasn't a pup for you.
ahh yes Betty you understand completely! I don't know who is more nerve racked...the breeder or the buyer. I suspect it is the breeder, but I know how nerve racking our last endeavour to have a pup was!
I do not like the term "pick of the litter" personally as what would be my pick is not necessarily the pick for someone else. I tried my best to match my pups to the temperment of the new owner. I really like this article in regards to this issue:
I hope to be grilled by Betty about my suitability for one of her pups in a couple years.
Well that's a wonderful endorsement Betty if ever I saw one, and all the way from the UK! If only more people understood that you are really searching for a breeder not a pup!

Well the plan is move to the states, get settled, wait a year or so until I'm ok to get a pup and then harass poor Betty.
I have a breeder in the UK who I love but who will not ship internationally - and let's face it, that's a lot of stress for a baby puppy. Feel bad enough putting my loony through it and he's nearly 6.
So I've been doing a LOT of research into breeders in the states and Betty is very highly recommended by a lot of people. Her lines are very similar to those of the male I have and I like the ethos I have seen and heard so far.
A lot of the things I do is because of how I was treated/lied to or basically screwed when I was the buyer.
My journey with Pisa has taught me so much, the things I've learned, experienced and been FORCED to learn(owner temperament vs dog temperament) and experience(health issues, poor hips) have really shaped where I am with placing my pups.
this thread has helped me to clarify the details, and evaluate how I will ensure potential buyers are happy for the life of their dog
it comes down to how I want to be treated, whats best for the puppy and the potential household.
The question of "Pick" .....I feel "best fit" is better for households wanting a pet, but understand pick as it goes to choosing potential show/breeding prospects
