Ditto with Steve!
The show line dogs are way to roach backed and far to angulated to excel in physical activities.
The West German show lines are light yrs better then the ASS (American show line) dogs. Better temperaments also.
There are always exceptions on both working and show lines.
Either can make excellent pets when selected and trained correctly.
There was a very nice WG show line dog in the schutzhund club I belonged to. Fricking outstanding obedience in both Schutzhund and AKC. Temperment wasn't quite as strong as most of the working lined dogs there but a very nice dog non the less. SchIII and AKC CD.
Hey John, I kinda skimmed so this may have been covered. He's young and at an age where he's getting a little testosterone going, so his reactions to things can be different then what they were a couple months ago.
One minute he thinks he can conquer the world, the next, he isnt so sure. If he was a nice, confident and social puppy, thats probabaly what he'll end up as when he grows up as long as you don't pressure him to not be.

Steve,
I would say he is confident, and very social, and I am not worried about him in the least. I just thought it would be nice to work on some confidence building. My goal was never to have a SchH, IPO or protection dog, just a nice family pet.
Here is a profile I shot this afternoon - I just told him to stand and snapped it. I didn't try to pose him.
Teach him to relax around things, separate of the ob work your doing. The less he feels the need to react to things, the more confident he'll be when they come up. Just practice hanging out with him.
