You're right, Joe, Mara was the first to post a link to the 14ers discussion board, so I want to say thanks to her, too. Those people who climb those mountains on a regular basis, wow, all I can do is look at myself and feel a little ashamed of how I find excuses not to get on the treadmill.
Just an aside, I hope the tech folks are working on whatever glitch is giving us so many duplicate posts. Five times for Joe's post above.

Yup, I.T. is on it.

Mara posted a link to the 14ers talking about this, I have not read them all but on page 23-24 some good ones, here is just one I liked, Navigator said
"Her old life ended when the people she counted on the most left her, and her new life begins with one of the rescuers, or anyone who won't abandon her, for that matter."
I'm definitely going to be clicking on and looking at that 14ers site's mountain-gear sponsors, too, as Charlie mentioned. http://www.14ers.com/

A post today from the prosecutor
Once again the world has been made aware of the caring community that is known as 14ers.com
I have been following this thread with great interest as I, a 14ers.com member, will be the prosecutor handling the criminal charges in this case. If you were one of the rescuers or personally witnessed anything that happened on the mountain please contact me through my 14ers.com profile. I want to make sure we have contact information for all potential witnesses. Any photographs or video that you may have will also be helpful. If we get to the point where the judge is considering punishment I will do another post with information for whomever would like to send a letter to the judge to make their opinion known as to what should happen to the defendant and the dog. However please remember that under the law Mr. Ortolani is innocent until proven guilty.
That is all I can comment on for now. I will continue to keep the 14ers.com community updated on the progress of the case.
Scott Turner, Chief Deputy District Attorney, 5th Judicial District

The rescue team has created a FaceBook page for Luckie,

Of interesting is a shot of the ridge that the original owner was trying to take the dog across. The photo may look more dramatic than it actually was. The left side doesn't look as sheer.

A week! He left her there a WEEK!
I carried my dog for miles through the mountains, wearing 80 pounds of additional gear, all the while keeping up with the dismounted patrol as we were getting to the trucks to get home. We jogged most of the way. If this guy had any heart, he would have carried her out. Period. The only way I wouldn't carry my dog is if I couldn't walk, and they would have to chopper us both out.

The thing that gets me is he did NOTHING!!!! No putting up signs, no phone calls other than apparently to the sheriffs' office and upon being told, "we only SAR humans" he said oh well too bad so sad..... If circumstances forced me to leave the dog, (which they never would even if I turned into a frozen artifact with them, but lets assume I did) and I was in such physical shape that I could not return for the dog, I would be making myself heard to every climbing organization, every news outlet, every local tv station etc., screaming for help! This guy said oh snap, and went on with his life.

Thanks for posting this, Charlie.
Hey, David, I thought of you when I read that first installment!
