"It's really scary. I don't bank on line, but I do use my credit cards some"
I have requested new cards twice (the bank will be VERY quick and supportive of this) and replace the ones you were using at hack time.
I don't care if I overreacted to a phony charge on one card ..... overreact is better, IMHO.
You can call right now and cancel them. So you wait a while for new different ones .... I found this less of an inconvenience than I expected. I just dusted off and used my checkbook.
The major food chain in this area recently got hacked and many thousands of people had their cards compromised. Us included. We had new cards within a week. New numbers of course!
Following links from Connie I have changed everything, but even last night folks were still calling to see if I was in the PHILLIPINES.
Hoping today it all stops, thank you Leerburgers for your help. Ram was the first person to let me know. Thanks so much all!

Identity Theft is a HEADACHE from HELL -- It happened to me nearly 10 years ago, but my Own Bank caught it first & refused to pay any of the fraudulent Credit Card charges OR honor any of the fraudulent checks ... The crook had dummied-up a fake Drivers License with ALL my information, but with Their photo, and my signature in Their handwriting, AND a phony MasterCard with ALL my info (don't ask me how) !!! Collection Agencies & Shyster Lawyers continued to mail me "outstanding" BILLS & THREATS of "litigation" for YEARS afterward, but my Bank and the Police told me to SHRED & IGNORE (all legally).
Something you Must Do to protect yourself for sure is FILE A POLICE REPORT IN WRITING and File a Report with All 3 Credit-Tracking Companies IN WRITING !!!
AAAhhhh I think I can explain the request for Betty's "old dog's name"....
The hackers asked me for help and ended the request with two question marks. I knew right away it wasn't Betty as her generation.......infact all pre texting generations consider a double question mark demanding and rude.
It is fairly common text speak for young adults and teens though.
I Said that I didn't think that this was Betty and if it was to tell me the name of her old dog.
I never got a response.
I guess they went hunting the name of the dog from other friends.
Scary.
Hugs and glad you are OK.

Ohhhhhh. What I guessed was that the hacker was looking for it as a probable password, but this of course answers it.
BTW, this site (and others) offers good advice on strong passwords. Maybe the best is to change them often, to mix letters and numbers, and to take advantage of case-sensitivity --- and not to use the same ones on low-security sites that you use on something like a banking site.
