Lots of tears today. Saturday the vet had an emergency and wasn't able to make it out so we rescheduled for today. Late last night Buddy laid down in the hay and quietly passed away on his own terms. We found him this morning. There were no signs of struggle like he had tried to get back up, he just laid his head down and closed his eyes. I think God had a plan for him to do so. Thanks to all for your support. I appreciate every single one of you!
I've been following this thread, but just didn't have the heart to post until now -- I had a feeling when Buddy was nuzzling your daughter's hair & didn't want to let her out of his sight, that he was somehow blowing his spirit into hers ... IMHO he lives in her heart now, and will join you all later (one by one) across The Bridge! God bless each of you during this time of tears, Amy.
I know you've been preparing for Buddy's passing for a little while now, and if it had to happen, I think the fact that he decided to do it in his own way, peacefully, was the best way. I'm so sorry for what you and Chloe and your whole family are going through.
That's sad for your family. Something about a dead horse lying there, so big flat on the ground, seeing their stomach, it tears at your heart.
I have a 23 yr old thoroughbred race horse, she was so beautiful when she was young and on the track. Tucked up like a greyhound, hair fine like a hamster. Have to put her to sleep before next winter. I'm not looking forward to it.
My deepest condolences, Amy. I haven't commented before, because I'm afraid horse death has been all too present for me. There were many, many horses killed in the tornadoes here and I have seen some horrible sights lately. I'm glad to think of Buddy's peaceful passing at his time, though I know your heart is hurting.
